Xing (Punishment) is a harmful interaction among the Earthly Branches, primarily indicating punishment, disputes, and misfortunes. The Three Xings are: Yin-Si-Shen (Ungrateful Punishment), Chou-Xu-Wei (Arrogant Punishment), Zi-Mao (Disrespectful Punishment), and Chen-Wu-You-Hai (Self-Punishment). Xing mainly signifies conflicts, verbal disputes, legal troubles, and official litigation; however, under certain configurations, Xing may also produce an auspicious 'Noble Pattern'.
Examine whether any of the Three Xing relationships exist among the Earthly Branches in the four pillars of the八字 (BaZi). The Three Xings are: Yin-Si-Shen, Chou-Xu-Wei, Zi-Mao, and Chen-Wu-You-Hai (Self-Xing). Xing is confirmed only when all three branches involved are present; two branches indicate merely the 'intention' or 'tendency' of Xing.
In a BaZi chart, with the Year Branch Yin, Month Branch Si, and Day Branch Shen, the complete Yin-Si-Shen Triple Xing appears, indicating frequent disputes throughout life; however, if the overall pattern is favorable, it may confer authority and leadership.
