The Eating God Pattern is one of the Eight Characters (BaZi) structural patterns, established when the Eating God appears openly in the Heavenly Stem of the Month Pillar or constitutes the primary Qi of the Earthly Branch of the Month Pillar. The Eating God symbolizes talent and enjoyment of food; individuals with the Eating God Pattern tend to have gentle dispositions, intelligence, eloquence, and creativity, and generally enjoy a life free from material want—yet they must guard against the Indirect Seal's 'Eating God Robbery'.
The Eating God Pattern is established when the primary Qi of the Earthly Branch of the Month Pillar is the Eating God, or when the Eating God among the hidden stems of the Month Pillar emerges into the Heavenly Stem. For example, for a Jia Wood Day Master born in the Si month, where Bing Fire (the Eating God of Jia Wood) is in command, the Eating God Pattern is formed.
A Jia Wood Day Master born in the Si month, with Bing Fire (Eating God) appearing openly in the Heavenly Stem and no Indirect Seal present to rob the Eating God, forms the Eating God Pattern—indicating outstanding talent and freedom from material hardship.
